# This move hints that Trump could soon target LGBTQ+ groups as security threats.

In a shocking shift, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has removed key protections against spying on LGBTQ+ individuals or groups, reports Bloomberg.  

This move marks a step back from the Biden administration’s efforts to expand federal protections for the LGBTQ+ community.  

Just two weeks ago, the DHS updated its policy manual, aligning it with **Trump’s** past executive orders. Those orders rolled back diversity and inclusion efforts, while insisting that only two sexes—male and female—exist.

The terms “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” which were added to protect LGBTQ+ people under the Biden administration, have now been removed.

The new DHS manual states that intelligence activities can’t be based solely on race, ethnicity, sex, religion, country of birth, nationality, or disability—unless combined with other info and directly supporting a national security mission.

This marks a reversal of Biden’s 2021 executive order that protected LGBTQ+ rights. His order was hailed as historic by the Human Rights Campaign, calling it “the most substantive, wide-ranging executive order” on LGBTQ+ rights ever issued by a U.S. president.

The Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has a history of civil liberties violations, including targeting journalists, racial justice activists, and even U.S. citizens protesting in the name of security. 

And with Kristi Noem, a vocal LGBTQ+ critic, now confirmed as Homeland Security Secretary, many fear even more setbacks for LGBTQ+ rights.
